Jack and the Beanstalk

- Why Jack deserves our sympathy?

I feel that Jack deserves out sympathy. Firstly is because he was the only son of a poor widow and he and his mother had to live on was the milk the cow gave every morning, which they carried to the market and sold to get money. When the cow gave no milk, they had to sell the cow in order to get some money for themselves. Secondly, when Jack's mother found out that he sold their cow for some beans, she was furious and in the end Jack lost his supper for that night and had to go to bed with an empty stomach. This is evident when his mother said " And now off to bed.Not a soup shall you drink, and not a bit shall you swallow this very night." Lastly, as a result for not getting to eat supper was, to climb up the beanstalk and ask the orgre's wife for food. I also felt that Jack was a very hardworking boy, who had helped his poor mother in milking the cow and selling the milk to get money and had also done his best to help sell their cow, but for just one little mistake, he had to starve for one whole night.

- Why the Giant deserves our sympathy?

I feel that the Giant deserves our sympathy. Firstly is because Jack went into the Giant's house, he would have stolen something and after he had found out about it, it was too late as Jack had already left his house. This is evident when the Giant fell asleep, Jack crept out on tiptoe from his oven, and as he was passing the Giant, he took one of the bags of gold under the Giant's arm and left his house. Secondly, Jack not only stole one of the bags of gold, the next time he went to the Giant's house, Jack stole his hen that lays golden eyes while he was asleep and hurried back home. Lastly, when the Giant finally saw Jack stealing his golden harp, he chased after him but unfortunately, as the Giant was climbing down the beanstalk, Jack used an axe and chopped the beanstalk into two and the Giant fell down and broke his crown.
